UPCYCLING class : I don't know how to sew

I'm making an Avant Garde skirt and I have no idea what I'm doing

The Vision

I picked a sewing project for one of my classes and I do not know how to sew. The last time I sewed something was in grade 10 Family Studies class and I made a pair of bed shorts that I still have to this day.
My class 'Upcycling Your Wardrobe' is all about turning old garments into new ones and I have decided to take on the challenge of challenges this morning and make a sequin skirt out of a mesh cape.
Both my prom dresses had sequins and needed to be trailered so I know how hard they are to work with. A lot of mess. A lot of precision. All those hearts you see in the photos are cut up old sequin tank tops i bought at St Vincent DePaul. Then they are pinned to a paper backing then pinned to the mesh material of the skirt. The bottom runner is a folded up scarf I will sew on after the hearts.

I pinned one by one each heart to the skirt to figure out placement. Then when it was time to sew them on by hand i unpinned each pin one by one and began to follow the pattern and started to sew

I started at 6:30am this morning and it is now 12:30pm and all the hearts have been sewn on. The pink sequin skirt runner still needs to be sewn to the bottom but I'm happy with my result's for the day

Next is to sew the gap in the cleavage on the pink puffy dress I have turned into a crop top. Then to sew the waistband in the cheetah pink mini skirt that used to be a dress. Finally I need to turn a fluff of pink tulle into a vail headband. Lots of work for being my "fun" class.
